Somalia ‘retakes’ Galgala mountains from al-Shabab

order Kamagra Gold online cheap, order Zoloft. Troops in Somalia have retaken the Galgala mountains from al-Shabab Islamist militants, the regional administration told the BBC.
The fighters had been holding the northern mountains for several years.

Puntland’s information minister said al-Shabab’s Galgala commander had defected four months ago.

The al-Qaeda aligned group is mainly based in southern and central Somalia where the African Union force is heading a major offensive against it.

Abdiweli Hirsi Abdille, the information minister of Somalia’s north-eastern region of Puntland, said troops had captured the Galgala region in an early morning offensive.

He gave no details of prisoners or casualties.

Al-Furqan Radio, a station regarded as favouring al-Shabab, has reported that two armoured vehicles belonging to the military and 16 soldiers were killed.

Galgala is the only area in Puntland that has been under the control of al-Shabab.

The al-Shabab Galgala commander, Said Atom, defected to government forces earlier in the year, leaving his fighters in Puntland.

Al-Shabab has been pushed out of major cities in recent years, but still controls smaller towns in rural areas.
