In response to recent statement of president Museveni about Somali state in which he named Somaliaas an example of a country with no state authority. President Farmaajo social media team immediately began social media campaigns to ostracize president of Uganda Yoweri Museveni.
Social media campaign used a sophisticated and multifaceted effort to target the President Museveni and his government. They created social media bots coordinated at the communication office of the president Farmaajo.
They created hushtags #shameonmuseveni. One of the close associated with President Farmaajo wrote “Uganda has largest lucrative security contract in Somalia. it’s coming to an end as Somalia started standing on own feet. He’ll do anything 2 keep the pay cheque coming”.
While others call for expelling Ugandan Forces “#Museveni has to be taught a good lesson”.
One of the Farmaajo twitter feeder sarcastically wrote “What the Dictator Museveni is trying to do here is clear. He’s purposely pushing a narrative which paints the Somali Government as incompetent and corrupt in order to keep his troops in Somalia”.
Somali Foreign Minster gave pejorative interview with BBC Somali service calling President Museveni statement as an outdated and unfortunate. “Museveni can say what he wants, we don’t care nor do we give credence”.
Aden Abdulle, a leading Somali Social media commentator lamented, “Apart from traditional media, program also touches on how social media has been weaponized at the state level to harass, intimidate & slander those deemed enemies of the government”. President Museveni sadly becomes one of those entities targeted by Farmaajo Government.
